Why we love it

Over-ears are a commitment. A train is not. AirPods Pro 2 are the buds you buy when the car is loud and a full headphone is too much hat for the errand. The tips seal. The noise canceling does the rest. Transparency is there for the announcement you actually need to hear.

We love the USB-C version because the case finally uses the cable already in the bag. Apple’s notes on this generation: the H2 chip, active noise cancellation, a transparency mode, and a MagSafe charging case that charges over USB-C. It is mid-ticket on purpose, the same shelf as a serious pair of headphones and a different shape. The price moves. This listing is the second-generation Pro with USB-C, model MTJV3LL/A, not the newer Pro 3 and not the old Lightning case.

They will not replace the Sony over-ears on a flight where you want the whole ear covered. They will make the commute a private room that fits in a pocket.

Apple’s notes include the H2 chip, active noise cancellation, a transparency mode, and personalized spatial audio. The earbuds and the case are rated IP54 for dust, sweat, and water. That is resistance, not a swimming permission slip.

Good for

  • Commutes, open offices, and errands where over-ears feel like a costume
  • Calls where you would like the room to quiet down without covering your whole ear
  • A pocket. The case is the product you will actually not lose, until you do, and then you will look

Skip it if

  • You wanted AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 4, or the older Pro with a Lightning case. This page is the Pro 2 USB-C set
  • You need over-ear isolation for a long flight. We already have a pair for that
  • You are not in Apple’s orbit and do not want to be. These are built for an iPhone first
