Why we love it
Some gifts need a speech. Bananagrams needs a table and someone who thinks they are good at spelling. You dump the tiles, you build your own little crossword, and the first person to use their letters yells banana. It is ridiculous. It works anyway.
We love it because it is a real game that fits in a purse. No board to lose behind a couch. No scorekeeping that turns a Tuesday into a courtroom. The tiles are the whole product, plus a pouch shaped like the joke. When we checked, the Amazon price was about $12, against a list price around $16. That is a small gift that still feels like you tried.
It will not teach a child to read by Friday. It will fill the twenty minutes after dinner when everyone is pretending to look at their phone. That is a better gift than another candle.

This is the classic Bananagrams word game: a banana-shaped pouch of letter tiles (the usual set is 144) for a fast anagram race. The box we mean says ages 7 and up, about one to eight players, and it contains small parts.
