Why we love it
A hike starts in a jacket and ends in a personal summer. Columbia’s Silver Ridge is the pant that can change its mind. Full length when the trail is brush and bugs. Unzip the legs, and it is shorts when the afternoon gets ideas.
We love the unfancy outdoor facts. Ripstop nylon, a quick-dry fabric, Omni-Shade UPF 50, and enough pockets that the phone is not a juggling act at the trailhead. Columbia’s current notes on style 1441671: a partial elastic waist, a gusset, and a zip that turns the pant into about a 10-inch short. This page is the Black one. When we looked, Amazon.com had it at $34.49 against a $70 list, in stock.
It will not replace the jeans, and it should not. It replaces the pair you ruin on a warm trail and then refuse to wear to dinner. The fleece can keep the cold morning. These keep the rest of the day.
The longer story
This is the Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge convertible pant in Black. Columbia’s current style number for the pant is 1441671. The brand’s notes: 100% nylon ripstop, Omni-Shade UPF 50, Omni-Wick to pull sweat off the fabric, a partial elastic waist, a gusset, and legs that zip off into about 10-inch shorts. Pockets include hand pockets, back flap pockets, and cargo pockets. It is a hiking pant, not a jean and not the Steens Mountain fleece.
Good for
- Warm hikes, travel days, and the walk that started cool and did not stay that way
- Someone who wants one pair to cover brush in the morning and heat after lunch
- The Black one, once you have picked a waist and an inseam you actually wear
Skip it if
- You need a different color. This page opens on Black. The size menu is the part you have to mean
- You wanted insulated pants, a rain shell, or jeans. Nylon ripstop is sun and brush, not a winter coat
- You hate a zip-off. The convertible is the entire point. A fixed hiking pant is a different listing
When we looked, Amazon.com had the Black pant at $34.49, about half off a $70 list, in stock and sold by Amazon.com. The deal link is the Amazon page (/dp/B089K3PDCC) with our Amazon Associates tag threepaths-20. Confirm the color swatch says Black, then choose the waist and inseam, before you check out.
