Why we love it

A junk drawer has a screwdriver, a knife, and a pair of pliers that are never in the same room as the problem. The Wave Plus is the argument for putting them in one pocket. Stainless, 8.5 ounces, eighteen tools, and the blades open from the outside so you do not have to unfold the whole tool to cut a zip tie.

We love the job description more than the legend. Locking tools. Spring-action scissors. Wire cutters Leatherman says you can replace when they wear out. It is the full-size Wave, not the smaller Skeletool and not the black one. The sheath is a separate purchase, which is the honest fine print. Leatherman’s published warranty on the tool is 25 years. Read the current terms if that promise is why you are buying.

When we looked, the stainless Wave Plus was $129.95 and in stock, sold by Leatherman. It will not replace a toolbox. It will be in your pocket when the toolbox is in the other room.

This is the Leatherman Wave Plus multi-tool in stainless steel, model 832531. Leatherman’s notes on it: 18 tools, outside-accessible blades, replaceable wire cutters, spring-action scissors, and locking tools. Closed, it is about 4 inches. Weight is 8.5 ounces. The sheath is not in the box.

Good for

  • A glove box, a daypack, and the drawer that has been pretending to be organized
  • Jobs that need pliers, a blade, and scissors before you walk back to the house
  • Someone who already owns a fleece and still shows up without a tool

Skip it if
