Why we love it
A wide-mouth bottle is a commitment to ice and a chin. The FreeSip is the other argument: hold it upright and use the straw, or tip it back and swig, and the same lid does both. There is a button. There is a loop that locks. It is a small machine, and it costs less than a polite lunch.
We love Very, Very Dark because the bottle is nearly black and the lid is a little teal, which is as much personality as a water bottle should be allowed. Twenty-four ounces. Double-wall stainless steel. Owala’s cold claim is up to 24 hours. The base is the one they say can meet a cup holder, with the honest footnote that it is wider than a shy console and may want the bigger hole. When we looked, Amazon had this color at $29.99. That is a gift under $50 that does not need a sleeve length or a skin type.
It is not for hot coffee. Owala says so. The Hydro Flask can keep the wide mouth and the all-day ice cube. This one keeps the straw.
The longer story
This is the Owala FreeSip insulated stainless steel water bottle, 24 ounces, color Very, Very Dark, model C03766. The brand’s notes: a FreeSip spout for sipping through the built-in straw or tilting back to swig, a push-button lid with a carry loop that doubles as a lock, double-wall insulation listed for up to 24 hours cold, and a wide opening for ice and cleaning. It is BPA-free. Owala’s own line on hot drinks is no: this bottle is not for hot liquids. The 24-ounce base is cup-holder friendly on their claim, and they also say it is wider than a standard cup holder and may only fit an oversized one.
Good for
- A desk, a commute, and a gift you can wrap without asking for a size
- People who want a straw and still want to take a real drink
- The Very, Very Dark one, if you do not want a bottle that looks like a sports drink
Skip it if
- You wanted hot coffee. This is a cold bottle, on purpose
- You need 32 or 40 ounces, a tumbler with a handle, or a different color. This page is the 24 oz FreeSip in Very, Very Dark
- Your cup holder is the narrow kind. Twenty-four ounces fits more consoles than the big siblings, and it is still a steel bottle
When we looked, it was $29.99. The price moves, and it has lived under $30, which keeps it in the under-$50 gift pile. The deal link is the Amazon page (/dp/B085DTZQNZ) with our Amazon Associates tag threepaths-20. Confirm the size says 24 ounces and the color says Very, Very Dark before you check out.
