Why we love it

Some games want a grudge. Cascadia wants a forest. You draft a habitat tile and a wooden animal, you build corridors, and somebody still wins. The winning just looks like a map of the Pacific Northwest instead of a robbery.

We love that it is the real one. Spiel des Jahres in 2022, from Flatout Games and Alderac. Bears, salmon, elk, hawks, foxes. One to four players, ages 10 and up, a teach that fits in a couple of minutes, and a play the box puts around 30 to 45. Model AEG7098. When we looked, Amazon had it at $37.40, in stock, ships from Amazon, sold by Alderac Entertainment.

It will not replace Catan if the table wants sheep and spite. It will be the gift you can wrap without asking for a sleeve length, a skin type, or a flavor of sparkling water. Under $40, and it does not wilt.

The longer story

This is Cascadia, the base game from Alderac Entertainment Group and Flatout Games, model AEG7098. It won the Spiel des Jahres in 2022. The box is a tile-laying and token-drafting game for 1 to 4 players, ages 10 and up, with a playtime the listing puts at about 30 to 45 minutes. You build habitat corridors and place wildlife: bears, salmon, elk, hawks, and foxes. The usual box includes habitat tiles, wooden wildlife tokens, nature tokens, scoring cards, and a bag. It is the base game, not an expansion.

Good for

  • A game night that wants strategy without a three-hour rules argument
  • Two people, or a family that can sit for half an hour
  • A gift under $40 that does not ask for a size

Skip it if

  • You wanted an expansion, a landmark promo, or a used copy with missing tokens. This page is the base game
  • The table came for Cards Against Humanity. This one is polite on purpose
  • You need a game for very small children. The age on the box is 10 and up

When we looked, it was $37.40, in stock, ships from Amazon, sold by Alderac Entertainment. The price moves, and it stays in the under-$50 gift pile. The deal link is the Amazon page (/dp/B093H8RGXX) with our Amazon Associates tag threepaths-20. Confirm the box says Cascadia and the publisher is Alderac, not a different tile game with a similar forest.
