Why we love it

Some gifts need a size. This one needs a table and a person who thinks they are good at geography. You collect colored cards. You claim routes. You try to connect the cities on your secret tickets before someone else sits on the line you wanted. Europe adds tunnels, ferries, and stations, which is how a friendly map becomes a small grudge.

We love this box because it is the one people mean when they say the Europe map, not the American original and not the anniversary tin. Two to five players, about 30 to 60 minutes, ages 8 and up. It is a gift that does not care about a shoe size or a skin type. The price moves. The argument does not.

It will not fit in a purse the way a card game does. It will take the evening, which is what you wanted when you said you would just play one. Codenames can keep the spies. This one wants the train.

The longer story

This is Ticket to Ride Europe, the English board game from Days of Wonder (Asmodee), model DOW7202. It is a complete game. You do not need the original Ticket to Ride. Two to five players, ages 8 and up, about 30 to 60 minutes. The Europe map adds tunnels, ferries, and train stations on top of the usual colored routes and destination tickets.

Good for

  • A kitchen table, a rainy weekend, and a gift you can wrap without asking for a sleeve length
  • Mixed ages who can read a city name and would like to block a friend politely
  • Anyone whose game shelf is one real board game away from being a personality

Skip it if

  • You wanted the original USA map, the 15th Anniversary edition, or an expansion map. This link is the standard Europe game
  • You needed a ten-minute card game that fits in a coat. This one wants a table
  • The household is mostly toddlers. There are small train pieces, and the listing is ages 8 and up
