Why we love it

A hand mixer is a compromise you make at 11 p.m. The KitchenAid Artisan is the machine you stop compromising for. Empire Red, a tilt head, a 5-quart bowl with a handle, and a motor that has been mixing other people’s cookies since before half the internet had a kitchen.

We love the unfancy inventory. Coated flat beater, coated dough hook, wire whip, pouring shield. Ten speeds, from a stir that does not fling flour to a whip that takes cream seriously. The head tilts so you can scrape the bowl without a yoga class. When we looked, Amazon had the Empire Red at $379.95 against a typical $499.95, and it was Amazon’s Choice in stand mixers.

It will occupy a corner of the counter and refuse to feel bad about it. That is the correct amount of drama for a machine that replaces the arm workout.

The longer story

This is the KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-quart tilt-head stand mixer in Empire Red, model KSM150PSER. KitchenAid’s notes on this one: 325 watts, 10 speeds, a metal body, and a 5-quart stainless bowl with a handle. In the box: the mixer, the bowl, a coated flat beater, a coated dough hook, a 6-wire whip, and a pouring shield. Hub attachments for pasta and grinders are sold separately.

Good for

  • Cookie batches, cake batter, whipped cream, and the bread dough you keep meaning to knead by hand
  • A kitchen that has already earned a real appliance, not another single-use gadget
  • The Empire Red one, specifically. The family comes in a paint store of colors

Skip it if

  • You wanted the bowl-lift Pro line, a mini 3.5-quart, or a different color. This page is the tilt-head Artisan in Empire Red, KSM150PSER
  • You need the pasta roller in the same box. That is an extra attachment
  • Your counter has no spare corner. This is about 23 pounds of mixer, and it wants to live out

When we looked, the price was $379.95 against a typical $499.95. It moves. The deal link is the Amazon page for that Empire Red Artisan (/dp/B00005UP2P) with our Amazon Associates tag threepaths-20. Confirm the color swatch says Empire Red before you check out.
