Why we love it
A saucepan can simmer. A Dutch oven can take the whole Sunday. Le Creuset’s Signature round in Flame is the pot that shows up in other people’s kitchens and then, somehow, in yours, because orange is a decision and enamel is a material with a job.
We love the 5.5-quart specifically. It holds a chicken, a pot of beans, or the bread you bake with the lid on, and it still fits in a normal oven. The cast iron under the enamel holds heat like it signed a contract. The lid is domed so the steam has somewhere to think. The knob on this listing is stainless steel, which means the oven can go to 500°F without a lecture about a plastic knob melting into the plot. Wide handles. A sand-colored interior you can actually see browning in. Flame has been the brand’s first idea since 1925.
It will live on the stove or it will occupy a cabinet, and either way the other pans will know. The bare skillet is already on this shelf. This is the enameled one you do not season, and you do not apologize for.
The longer story
This is the Le Creuset Signature enameled cast-iron round Dutch oven, 5.5 quarts, in Flame, the listing with the stainless-steel knob. Le Creuset’s notes on the Signature: enameled cast iron, a tight lid that sends moisture back into the food, larger loop handles, and a light interior enamel so you can see what the food is doing. It is made in France. It works on gas, electric, ceramic, and induction. Oven safe to 500°F. The company calls it dishwasher safe, and then quietly suggests you wash it by hand if you like the enamel.
