Why we love it
A rain jacket that lives on a hanger is a jacket you do not have when the sky changes its mind. Marmot’s PreCip Eco is the shell that stuffs into its own pocket and waits in the bag like it planned this.
We love the outdoor facts that are actually the product. NanoPro recycled nylon ripstop, a PFC-free water-repellent finish, seams that are taped, pit zips for the climb that got warm, and a hood you can put away when the cloud was bluffing. Style number M15881. This page is the black one from the latest collection. When we looked, Amazon.com had the Black XX-Large at $135, in stock. The size menu is the part you have to mean. Amazon’s own note on the listing is that it is frequently returned for a loose fit, which is a polite way of saying it runs roomy.
It will not replace a winter parka, and it should not. It replaces the surprise shower. The fleece can keep the cold morning. This one keeps the rain off the fleece.
The longer story
This is the Marmot men’s PreCip Eco waterproof rain jacket in Black, the latest collection, style M15881. Marmot’s notes: a NanoPro membrane on 100% pre-consumer recycled nylon ripstop, a PFC-free durable water repellent, fully taped seams, pit zips, zippered hand pockets, an adjustable hem and cuff tabs, a DriClime-lined chin guard, and a hood. It packs into a hand pocket. The listing’s center-back length is about 30 inches, and the weight on the product table is about 305 grams. Care on the page is machine wash. It is a rain shell, not an insulated coat.
Good for
- Hikes, bike commutes, and the day the forecast was a shrug
- A bag that has room for a pocket and not for a parka
- The black one, once you have picked a size you actually wear
Skip it if
- You need a different color. This page opens on Black. When we looked, the selected size was XX-Large. Change it
- You wanted a puffy, a softshell fleece, or rain pants. This is the shell
- You hate a roomy fit. The listing flags frequent returns for a loose fit. If you like a trim jacket, try it on with the return window in mind
