Why we love it
A cheap blender is a smoothie with a secret. The secret is gravel. The Vitamix Explorian E310 is the black counter machine people mean when they stop pretending a $40 jar can liquefy a strawberry.
We love the unfancy inventory. Ten speeds, a pulse, a 48-ounce container, and a mini-tamper so the frozen stuff actually meets the blades. Vitamix rates the motor at about 2 horsepower. The brand’s cleaning claim is a drop of soap, warm water, and 30 to 60 seconds, which is the correct amount of ceremony for a machine you will use on a Tuesday. In the box: the base, the container, and that tamper. Vitamix lists a 5-year full warranty. When we looked, Amazon had the black E310 at $349.95, in stock. Vitamix’s own shop lists it at $379.95.
It will occupy a corner and refuse to feel bad about it. The KitchenAid can keep the cookies. This one keeps the smoothie from having a texture.
The longer story
This is the Vitamix Explorian Series E310 blender in black, model VM0197. Vitamix’s notes: a household blender with a variable 10-speed control, a pulse, a 48-ounce container, hardened stainless blades, and a mini-tamper. The motor is listed at about 2 horsepower, on 110–120 volts, with a roughly 4.5-foot cord. Dimensions on the brand page are about 9 by 8 by 18 inches, and the machine weighs about 10.5 pounds. The container is dishwasher-safe. Self-cleaning, on Vitamix’s claim, is warm water, a drop of dish soap, and 30 to 60 seconds on high. Vitamix lists a 5-year full warranty covering parts, performance, labor, and two-way shipping. Read their current terms if you are buying for that reason.
